Special Educational Needs and Disability

SENCO: Mrs C Lawrence

Mrs Lawrence can be contacted at CLawrence@hur.inicioacademies.org.uk or 07809 211562

Staff in the SEND Department support our students’ additional needs in a variety of ways. They may support students emotionally, physically or academically within their lessons; provide safe, supported socialising opportunities at break, lunch and after school; help to complete homework after school; provide 1:1 sessions to support academic or social progress; lead small groups in reading interventions; and run alternative morning registration groups to help students get ready for a successful day. Some teaching assistants provide alternative options at Key Stage 4 in addition to the general school offer.

Sometimes, it is necessary to refer a student to an outside agency, such as Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) or CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). This would also be carried out by Mrs Lawrence or a member of the Student Support Team.
